WIN 2 Tickets to Bard on the Beach + Check this list of The Best Late-Summer Date Night Ideas
Now nobody can argue that these August sunsets aren’t romantic, the soft pink hue, and warm summer air reminds us that August is a month for lovers. With Fall on the horizon, I want to make sure you have a chance to get into the city and do something memorable. These are some of my favorite summer date night activities – keep in mind, some of my favorites ‘dates’ are with the girls – these are for you single babes too!
For those of you who haven’t been – GO. Bard on the Beach is Canada’s largest non-for profit professional Shakespeare festival. In beautiful white tents sitting along the edge of Vancouver’s Vanier Park harbor, the Bard on the Beach showcases Shakespeare plays, related drama’s and special events. They are currently celebrating their 28th season, so they must be doing something right! Take a look here to see what shows they have in store this summer! Grab a gelato, walk along the seawall and head to the Bard for great entertainment.
The “twilight” drive-in is an under-the-stars, old-school movie experience playing new movies! They play back-to-back movies for a double-feature experience. They have a concession, and are pet friendly – yes, your dog counts as your date! Make some snacks, and head over in your comfiest sweat pants; it’s totally appropriate. This is a super fun, more private date-night activity.
Take a stop at Vancouver’s largest non-for profit urban theatre company. The Vancouver Arts Theatre company has 3 venues, but Granville Island is best for a date night. Walk around Granville Island, stop for dinner at Edible Canada and head over to watch a live show. VAT plays classics such as Beauty and The Beast, and also showcases some numbers you might not be familiar with. Check out what’s playing here.
I know this option restricts you to Tuesday’s, but it’s totally worth it. Every week, the Summer night’s Cinema hosts an outdoor movie in beautiful Stanley Park and best of all, it’s free! They play classics like The Gooneys, Beauty and the Beast and Harry Potter. Pack a picnic, bring some wine, get there early and enjoy a movie cuddled up on your favorite picnic blanket. I suggest setting up camp and watching the sunset before the movie starts, third beach is beautiful at dawn!
For the 17th year in a row, Richmond has been blessed with over 500 food choices from around the world. If you and your date are looking for something more interactive, the night market might be right for you! Take a stroll and look at all the market stands (best place to buy fun socks) and have your choice of what seems like a million food stands. This year the market is honoring Canada’s 150, so there are some extra special events.
