Looking for your new favourite summer-night-with-a-cold-beer drinking song? Lady Antebellum released a new track, “Champagne Night” penned by Canada’s very own Madeline Merlo!
The 26-year-old Maple Ridge native made a splash on Monday night’s episode of Songland, NBC’s songwriting competition TV series, where she pitched the track to Lady Antebellum, as well as a panel of superstar songwriters and producers.

Among them was Shane McAnally, who has written countless hits for artists like Old Dominion, Thomas Rhett, Sam Hunt, Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban and Brothers Osbourne. Merlo worked with McAnally as her mentor to rework the song, which was originally titled “I’ll Drink to That”.
In an Instagram post, Merlo called the show an “incredible experience” and gave a special thank you to McAnally. “You’re my favorite songwriter and being able to work on this with you was so amazing it’s tough to find the words,” she wrote. “You really are as good as they say, as funny as they say and as kind as they say.”
She also revealed that she had been carrying around a keychain with McAnally on it in the 8 months leading up to the show. “[I] manifested I would write with him one day… there is power in your thoughts fam,” wrote Merlo.
